About St. James

Our mission, history, and values.

Our Mission

Rooted in Jesus' Love

St. James the Less is a welcoming Episcopal parish that seeks to embody the love of Jesus Christ through worship, formation, and faithful service to our neighbors. We are guided by Matthew 25:35–36: "Whatever you did for the least of these, you did for me."

Our community welcomes all people—regardless of background, belief, or circumstances. Everyone belongs at St. James.

What We Believe

Inclusion

All people are welcome at St. James. We celebrate the full inclusion and dignity of LGBTQ+ members, people of all races, and everyone seeking spiritual community.

Service

We serve our neighbors with compassion. Our free clinic, food programs, youth outreach, and community partnerships reflect our commitment to justice and care.

Tradition & Growth

We honor our Episcopal heritage while remaining open to the Holy Spirit's leading. We welcome newcomers and lifelong members with equal warmth.

Our Story

St. James the Less has served the Ashland community for over 150 years. Founded in faith and sustained by generations of devoted parishioners, we have grown into a vibrant, multigenerational parish that reflects the diversity and compassion of Christ's love.

From our early days as a small parish to today's active community, St. James has remained committed to two things: faithful worship and faithful service. We've expanded our ministries to reach more people—launching our free clinic, youth programs, and outreach initiatives—while never losing sight of our core mission.

Today, we are an Episcopal parish shaped by prayer, music, education, and outreach. We are rooted in tradition, open to new faces, and eager to welcome you into our family.
